My scarf arrived today, 4 months earlier than I expected. It’s beautiful! A living memorial to those who lost their lives, and a realisation of one of the campaigns aims; to create a lasting memorial to those who suffered under the witchcraft act and a defiant pledge to resist a return to dark times. Handmade by Prickly Thistle, using traditional methods, the colours and pattern tell a story; black and grey for the dark times and the ash of those burned, the red and pink symbolize the legal red tape, the state sanctioned accusations, then and now. Its a beautifully thought out tartan, even the threadcount tells a story; 1+5+6+3 = 15 (witchcraft act 1563) and 1+7+3+6 = 17 (1736 act repealed). Feeling quite emotional…
